How much does Google Ads cost?

Google Ads has no set price. You pay for each click, and an auction sets what a click costs. Across industries in 2026, search ads averaged:

  • $5.42 average cost per click Industry data, LocaliQ and WordStream 2026
  • $66.69 average cost per lead Industry data, LocaliQ and WordStream 2026
  • 8.18% of clicks became leads Industry data, LocaliQ and WordStream 2026
  • 6.64% of people who saw an ad clicked Industry data, LocaliQ and WordStream 2026

What it costs to advertise on Google comes in two bills. Google charges for the clicks. If an agency runs the account, its fee is a second bill, and both are below.

What sets your Google Ads price

The highest bid does not always win. Google ranks ads on bid and quality together (Google Ads Help). A relevant ad can hold a higher spot at a lower price.

  • Your bid

The most you will pay for one click. You often pay less: only what it takes to hold your spot.

  • Ad and page quality

How well the ad matches the search and how useful the page behind it is. Better quality can lower what each click costs.

  • Competition and context

How many rivals bid on the same search, plus where, when and on which device the person searches.

Two companies in the same industry can pay very different prices. The table below gives your industry's starting point.

Google Ads cost per click and per lead by industry

Business services average $5.87 a click and $93.69 a lead. Industries closest to B2B sit near the middle of the range. Find yours below.

Industry Average cost per click Average cost per lead
Business services $5.87 $93.69
Industrial and commercial $5.87 $75.19
Finance and insurance $3.39 $74.44
Legal services $9.87 $131.63
Real estate $3.22 $102.51
Education and instruction $4.81 $77.48
Career and employment $5.81 $67.36
Home improvement $8.33 $90.92
All industries $5.42 $66.69

Same source as the averages above, LocaliQ and WordStream 2026.

A cheap click is not a cheap lead. Finance and insurance pay $3.39 a click, among the lowest, and still $74.44 a lead. Judge your account by what a lead costs.

What a Google Ads budget buys

A Google Ads budget for 1 month turning into clicks and then a few leads | Aluxads

Your daily budget caps the month. Google may spend up to 2 times your daily budget on a busy day, but never charges more than 30.4 times it in a month. Google's own example: $10 a day never costs more than $304 a month.

$2,000 a month buys about 340 clicks at the business services average. At $93.69 a lead, that is about 21 leads. Swap in your industry from the table above.

Google Ads management pricing: how agencies charge

Agencies charge in three common ways. Each one does something well. Agencies also call this pay per click management pricing, or PPC for short.

Flat monthly fee

Does wellThe fee holds still while your budget moves, so you can plan around it.

Typical range49% of agencies report an average retainer of $1,000 to $5,000 a month, 31% report $5,000 to $10,000 (SparkToro survey 2025, all digital agencies).

AskWhat the fee buys each month, in hours or deliverables.

Percentage of ad spend

Does wellThe fee grows with the account, so a larger budget gets matching attention.

Typical range10% to 20% of monthly ad spend (AgencyAnalytics 2025).

AskWhether the percentage drops as your budget grows.

Hourly

Does wellYou pay for the time used, which suits a project or a single fix.

Typical range$100 to $149 an hour for paid ads agencies listed on Clutch (Clutch 2026).

Signs your Google Ads cost is too high

You can check these three in your own account today.

  • Clicks on searches you do not sell to.

Open the search terms report and look for phrases no buyer would type.

  • A cost per lead well above your industry.

  • Leads you cannot trace to a sale.

FAQ

Is Google Ads worth it at $66.69 a lead?

It is when one customer is worth many times your cost per lead. Work out what one new customer brings you in a year, then compare it with the cost per lead for your industry above.

Why do I pay more per click than the average?

Averages mix every account, strong and weak, across Google and Microsoft search. Your price moves with your industry, the quality of your ads and pages, and how many rivals bid on the same searches.

Can my Google Ads budget run over?

On a single day, yes: Google may spend up to 2 times your daily budget. Over a month it never charges more than 30.4 times the daily budget, so $10 a day stays at or under $304.

How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?

Start from the leads you need each month. Multiply that number by the cost per lead for your industry, and you have a monthly budget.

Do I pay an agency on top of the ad spend?

Yes. Google bills you for clicks, and the management fee is a separate bill.
